Samuel (Sam) T. Bartle, MD, FAAP, FACEP
practices pediatric emergency medicine with the Medical College of Virginia Physicians and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine with joint faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics for Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. He was recognized for his advocacy work on behalf of children at the Virginia General Assembly in 2009 by the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and currently serves as the chapter’s Chairperson for its Governmental and Legislative Affairs Committee and as its representative on the Governor’s sub-panel on Disaster Preparedness. Dr. Bartle also serves as a representative on the Governor’s Emergency Medical Services Council Advisory Board for the Virginia College of Emergency Physicians. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Emergency Physicians. He received his medical degree from the University of South Alabama’s College of Medicine (fellowship training in pediatric emergency medicine at the University of Alabama in Birmingham) and his bachelor’s from the University of Alabama.

Richard L. Bennett, MD is a second generation pediatrician in practice with his mother, Dr. Lillie Bennett, in Richmond and an Associate Clinical Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Medicine. He currently serves as the Secretary of Richmond Community Hospital’s Medical Executive Committee and sits on the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Care Policy for the City of Richmond. Dr. Bennett serves on the Advisory Boards of St. Joseph’s Villa, Noah’s Ark, and Commonwealth Parenting. He received his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and his bachelor’s from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Jason M. Budde, MD, FACC, FACS is a cardiothoracic surgeon for Centra Health in Lynchburg. He is currently a member of the Centra Board Physician Advisory Council, Chairman of the Thoracic Oncology Quality Council, and Interim Chairman of the apology and disclosure committee. He is currently working on a new minimally-invasive cardiac rhythm surgical program. Prior to Lynchburg, Dr. Budde began his practice in Orlando, Florida. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Surgeons. He received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and his bachelor’s from Davidson College in North Carolina.

Joel T. Bundy, MD, FACP, FASN is a nephrologist for Tidewater Kidney Specialists, Inc. He is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School and is the Chief of Medicine and incoming President-Elect of the Medical Staff at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. He has also been selected as the incoming President-Elect of the Chesapeake Medical Society. Dr. Bundy was commissioned to the United States Navy in 1984 where he served as a General Medical Officer in Jacksonville, Florida and at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth. Dr. Bundy is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology. He earned his medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in North Carolina and his bachelor’s from Jacksonville University in Florida.

Alison Christian-Taylor, MD is an attending physician at Bon Secours’ Maryview Medical Center Western Branch Family Practice in Chesapeake. She recently received designation as a Lead Physician of the Clinical Council for Bon Secours Medical Group Hampton Roads. Dr. Christian-Taylor piloted the implementation of EPIC electronic medical records and recently volunteered her practice to participate in the clinical transformation of patient care, with a focus on patient centered medical home. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Bon Secours Medical Group Clinical Council. She also serves as a Girl Scout Troop Co-Leader. She is a lifelong resident of Chesapeake and received her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and her bachelor’s from Virginia Commonwealth University.

John “Jack” H. Cook III, MD, FACP practices Internal Medicine in Leesburg and at Inova-Loudoun Hospital Center. He is on the board of Loudoun Medical Group, LLC a growing 117 physician primary care and selected specialty group in Northern Virginia. He is on the boards of the INOVA Loudoun Foundation and the Loudoun Free Clinic. After graduation from the Naval Academy in 1957, he served in the United States Navy until 1973, from bases in Norfolk, Virginia to Yokosuka, Japan. His last tour, prior to entering medical school at Yale in 1973, was as Commanding Officer of the Blue crew of the Polaris submarine, USS Woodrow Wilson SSBN-624. He completed his residency training at the University of Virginia hospital and certified in Internal Medicine in 1980. He moved home to Leesburg and practiced both primary Internal Medicine and Critical Care medicine until 1997. Since 1997, Dr. Cook has focused full-time on outpatient Internal Medicine and Geriatric care. His professional interests beyond Internal Medicine include dementia, nutrition, multi-generational support systems and complexity theory. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

P. Saleena Dakin, MD, FAAP is a pediatrician and the education coordinator with Fairfax Pediatric Associates and leads the practice’s quality improvement initiatives, currently including MSV Foundation’s Improving Asthma Care and Treatment (IMPACT) program. She has also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Georgetown University Medical Center since 2003. Prior to these positions, Dr. Dakin led several organizations serving as the Medical Director of the McAllister Health Center and Arlington Pediatric Center. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She received her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine and her bachelor’s from Emory University.

Aaron E. Goldberg, MD is an obstetrician/gynecologist in academic practice as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health System. He is involved in patient care, research, and instruction of resident physicians and medical students and is on the Resident Research Committee and the Resident Education Committee for the department. In addition, he is actively involved in the transition to a fully electronic medical record at VCU. Dr. Goldberg previously served as an Organ Allocation Analyst for the United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) in Richmond. Prior to medical school, he worked for several years as a business consultant in Washington, DC and New York, serving both physician and hospital organizations in effort to help them advance their mission of providing safe, effective, and efficient care. He received his medical degree from VCU School of Medicine and his bachelor’s from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Richard A. Hoefer, DO, FACS is a surgical oncologist for Sentara Surgery Specialists in Newport News. He is currently the Director of Cancer Services at Sentara’s Careplex Hospital and Co-Director of the Dorothy G. Hoefer Comprehensive Breast Center. Dr. Hoefer began his medical career is the United State Air Force, serving in various leadership positions for USAF Medical Centers and as Chief of Surgery for a MASH Unit deployed in Saudi Arabia and Iraq during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In 2006, he established the Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy program at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, which is a ‘clinical first’ in Virginia. Dr. Hoefer is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the Society of Surgical Oncology. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and his bachelor’s from Gettysburg College.

Bennett B. Lee, MD, MPH is the Associate Program Director of Internal Medicine Ambulatory Care and an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine. He currently oversees the ambulatory curriculum and serves as the director of the generalist and primary care tracks. Prior to this position, Dr. Lee was on the general medicine faculty at Emory University for five years, where he was involved in research examining how minorities use alternative care. Dr. Lee is on the Cultural Competency Task Force for the Center for Health Disparities Education Committee and the Dean’s Committee for Faulty and Instructional Development. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia, his master’s of public health from Boston University’s School of Public Health, and his bachelor’s from Williams College.

Gary P. Miller, MD, FACC is a practicing cardiologist with Cardiology Consultants of Danville, Inc. and is an elected Councilman for the City of Danville. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Danville Regional Medical Center and has been the Alternate Delegate for the American Medical Association since 2004. Dr. Miller is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at James Madison University and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. He was the 5th District Representative to the Virginia Board of Medicine, appointed by Governor Allen from 1997-2005. Dr. Miller is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and his bachelor’s from Virginia Tech.

Linda H. Mosely, MD is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in Northern Virginia with a focus on Hand and MicroSurgery with an office in the INOVA Healthplex. She is Past-President of the Medical Society of Northern Virginia, Chairman of the Medical Society of Northern Virginia Woman's Group and Co-Chairman of Project Access of Northern Virginia. Dr. Mosely has worked and volunteered all over the world including: New Zealand, Spain, Africa and Ecuador. She has been honored as the State of Virginia Patient's Choice Award for two consecutive years in 2008 and 2009. Dr. Mosely received her bachelor's and Medical School degrees from Louisiana State University, Kleinert Hand Fellowship in Louisville, KY and completed her Plastic Surgery training from Yale.

James “Tommy” Potter, Jr., MD, FAAP is the President and a founding Partner of Appalachian Healthcare Associates, PC, a multi-specialty group. He specializes in pediatrics and allergic disease. He is currently on the Board of Directors for Norton Community Hospital and on the Wise County Virginia Multidisciplinary Team, for which he performs physical exams and testimony for all physical and sexual abuse cases for five surrounding counties. He is a member of the Pan America Allergy Society and the Urgent Care Association of America. Dr. Potter is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and received his medical degree and his bachelor’s from East Tennessee State University.

Pradeep K. Pradhan, MD is a practicing physician with Dominion Primary Care, P.C. in Danville. He is currently the 5th District Director of the Medical Society of Virginia and Vice Chair of the Gateway Health Alliance Advisory Board. He is the past Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine for Danville Regional Medical Center. He co-founded Project Access of Danville, a network of volunteer physicians and other health care providers donating medically necessary care to the low-income uninsured. Project Access transitioned into the Piedmont Access to Health Services (PATH) community health center, and Dr. Pradhan now serves on PATH’s Advisory Board. He is the Treasurer of Danville Pittsylvania Academy of Medicine and has volunteered with the Free Clinic of Danville for almost 15 years. He completed his undergraduate work and received his medical degree from Patna University in India. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at St. Luke Medical Center in Cleveland, OH, a Case Western Reserve University program.

Helen N. Ragazzi, MD, FAAP is a pediatric hospitalist at Bon Secours Saint Mary’s Hospital in Richmond. In addition, she is the pediatric medical director for the MSV Foundation’s Improving Asthma Care and Treatment (IMPACT™) program. Previously, Dr. Ragazzi served as the Medical Directors for Bon Secours Care-a-Van and Bon Secours Richmond CARMA (Controlling Asthma in the Richmond Metropolitan Area). She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has led nationally-recognized projects which have guided pediatric practices in achieving excellent asthma care. She received her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University and her bachelor’s from Brown University’s Medical Education Program.

Gregg A. Shivers, MD is a hospitalist with Riverside Health System’s Walter Reed Hospital and Service Line Chief of the Middle Peninsula. He recently returned from 18 months in New Zealand as a Locum Senior Medical Officer/Consultant Physician in Timaru Public Hospital, South Canterbury District Health Board. There he served as the clinical champion for medication reconciliation and as the physician lead for the NHS sponsored "lean" initiative; “The Productive Ward, Releasing Time to Care.” Prior to this travel, Dr. Shivers worked in Kilmarnock at Rappahannock General Hospital and served as the President of the Medical Staff and volunteered with the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic. He is presently an Ex-officio member of the Riverside Medical Group Board and its Quality Subcommittee. Dr. Shivers received his medical degree from the UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey and his bachelor’s from Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania.

Ian “Phillip” Snider, DO is a family medicine physician for Bon Secours Medical Associates serving the Hampton Roads area. He started his medical career as a non-traditional medical school applicant after working as a dietitian and running a personal training business for eight years. He is now an active member of the Bon Secours Leadership Council and is a Co-Chair of Bon Secours’ Leadership Development Committee. Dr. Snider is currently developing Bon Secours’ metabolic program, serving as the program’s Medical Director. He is also the Medical Director of InMotion Physical Therapy @ Health Way and an Adjunct Assistant Professor for the Department of Biochemistry at Midwestern University in Arizona. He received his doctorate of osteopathic medicine from Midwestern University, his master’s of science from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, and his bachelor’s from North Carolina State University.

Sofia Teferi, MD, FAAP is the Medical Director for St. Mary’s Hospital Pediatric Hospitalist Program, managing a team of 10 pediatric hospitalists providing care to all inpatient children, and a clinical assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)’s Medical Center. She serves on the Boards of Gemini Healthcare Group and Commonwealth Parenting. Dr. Teferi previously worked at Central Virginia Community Health Center in New Canton. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She received her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and her bachelor’s in biology from Goucher College in Maryland.

Charlotte “Ann” Townsend, MD, FAAFP is a physician for C-Health, a private practice family medicine clinic in Russell County. She is also a visiting assistant professor of family medicine at the University of Virginia, adjunct faculty at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine and chairperson of the ethics committee for Russell County Medical Center. Dr. Townsend recently helped to establish the C-Health Foundation, which plans to offer scholarships and formally guide the practice’s charitable outreach efforts. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine. She received her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and her bachelor’s in biomedical engineering from Duke University.

Norma Lizette Zapata-de Perez, MD, FAAO is an ophthalmologist and owns her practice, Lake Ridge Ophthalmology, LLC in Northern Virginia. She also serves on the CME Intrastate Accreditation Committee of the Medical Society of Virginia. She is a former MSV Foundation grantee for the Partners in Protecting Sight project which worked to improve the detection of blinding conditions in the uninsured and underserved on Prince William County. Dr. Zapata-de Perez formerly practiced in Pittsburgh, was in private practice in Puerto Rico and served as an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Puerto Rico. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. She received her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and her bachelor’s from the University of Puerto Rico.
