In 2004, the MSV Foundation announced the creation of the annual Salute to Service awards, designed to recognize the outstanding efforts that have substantially improved patient care, both locally and abroad. Salutes are extended to physicians, medical students and Alliance members who are dedicated to developing and nurturing a caring health promotion and disease prevention environment by providing service on behalf of patients everywhere.
The 2010 Salute to Service Awards are sponsored by Bon Secours Richmond Health System.
Salute Award Categories
- Service to the Uninsured and Underserved: presented to a physician or Alliance member who has dedicated his/her abilities to improving the health of the uninsured and underserved.
- Service to the International Community: presented to a physician or Alliance member who has dedicated his/her abilities to advancing the health of the international community.
- Service to the Profession: presented to a physician or Alliance member whose work in the medical community has promoted the health care profession.
- Service for Advancing Patient Safety and Quality Improvement, underwritten by The Doctors Company Foundation: presented to a physician or Alliance member who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to advancing patient safety and quality improvement.
- Service by a Medical Student or Resident underwritten by the MSV Alliance: presented to a Virginia medical student or resident whose outstanding efforts have substantially improved patient care, either locally or abroad.
Nomination Criteria Nominees shall exemplify the following four criteria:
- The nominee shall have demonstrated outstanding service to medicine.
- The nominee shall exemplify dedication to the quality of health care for the population that he or she serves.
- The nominee shall inspire and promote excellence in others.
- Nominees who are members of the Medical Society of Virginia will be given stronger consideration.
Submission Requirements
- Please nominate no more than one physician or Alliance member for each Salute category.
- All nominations should be typed and should answer all of the questions on the nomination form. Please give specific examples, results of the nominees' efforts, and as many details as possible.
- The nomination form should be accompanied by a letter of support from someone other than the nominator or nominee.
- All nominations should include a copy of the nominee's CV or resume. Please e-mail this to foundation@msv.org.
- Salute to Service nomination packets must be received at the MSV Foundation no later than 5 pm, July 30, 2010.
- Incomplete nominations will not be considered by the judging panel.
