Endorse World Health Day today
7 April 2011
Today, April 7, is World Health Day, which marks the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) and provides an opportunity for communities from across the world to come together to promote actions that can improve health. WHO selects a key health issue every year and encourages people to highlight the significance of this issue for good health and well being. This year’s World Health Day issue is a call to action to halt the dangerous spread of antimicrobial resistance, also known as antibiotic resistance. Learn more about World Health Day on the
WHO Web site.
The Medical Society of Virginia Foundation (MSVF) works on several efforts to promote antibiotic resistance awareness and regularly partners with the Virginia Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control to develop educational resources and tools for antibiotic resistance awareness. Together, the groups began Get Smart Virginia, which is part of the Get Smart initiative that helps lead the United States’ role in World Health Day 2011.
