The Medical Society of Virginia Foundation (MSVF) held a learning session for the fifth class of 2010-2011 Claude Moore Physician Leadership Institute (PLI) fellows at the Medical Society of Virginia headquarters prior to the 2011 Legislative Summit on May 11.

Attendees got to hear from Plum Cluverius, PCC, founder of Vedere Consulting, who talked about effective team building, team dysfunctions and tools teams can use to overcome dysfunction. Stephen A. Horan, Ph.D., president and CEO of Community Health Solutions, also spoke on how to lead quality improvement and effective strategies to overcome leadership challenges. Following the speeches, PLI fellows participated in the legislative summit.

PLI fellowsMSVF established PLI in 2006 to produce a network of physician leaders who work individually and together to effectively advance health and health care in Virginia. This yearlong program is one of only a handful in the nation that is devoted to providing physicians with formal, ongoing leadership training. Since its inception in 2006, 78 fellows have graduated from this program.
